Robson Redux Design Exhibition

February 28, 2015 - March 15, 2015

VIVA Vancouver is the City of Vancouver's program responsible for the annual Robson Redux Design-Build Competition, which temporarily transforms the iconic 800-block of Robson Street, in the heart of downtown Vancouver, into an inviting and enjoyable pedestrian plaza for the summer season. Over the past four summers, this street has seen delightful and imaginative installations of giant bean bags, waves of yellow shag, and a curvy urban reef.

The competition invites emerging and professional designers, architects and artists to submit their design ideas for the block’s transformation. This year's competition is built on the theme of connection: people's connection to one another and to the urban space.

VIVA Vancouver and the Museum of Vancouver have partnered to present an exhibition of all of the design entries received as part of Robson Redux 2015. Come see more than 80 submissions from local and international teams; some entries came from as far away as Hong Kong, New York, Seoul, and Vienna.

“Imagining the creative potential of public spaces like 800-block Robson Street is a great way to stretch our thinking about how we use space,” says Cheryl Nelms, Director of Project and Quality Management from the City of Vancouver. “The proposals that are submitted to Robson Redux are a great source of inspiration for how else a city can be animated and used to facilitate a healthy, vibrant life for its residents.”

An external jury panel will select the Design-Build Award winner, which will be built and installed on Robson Street by July 1, Canada Day. The City will also present a People’s Choice Award for the most popular design. Visitors to the Museum are invited to cast their ballot for the People’s Choice Award.

The Robson Redux Design-Build Award and People’s Choice Award will be announced on March 18.

VIVA Vancouver and the Museum of Vancouver thank all staff and supporters associated with making this exhibition possible.
