Mini-Indigi Library: Take a Reading Break in the MOV
To celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day, the Museum of Vancouver is proud to announce the launch of our Mini-Indigi Library! Starting June 21st, 2024, visitors can find books by Indigenous authors, writers, illustrators and historians in the new Mini Library located as part of the Family Corner play area.
The Library is possible thanks to a collaboration with Massy Books, a local, Indigenous and woman-owned and operated bookstore. While the books in the Library are for reading while on site, all the books can be purchased online or in store at Massy Books.
Stop by the Mini-Indigi Library when you’re visiting the Museum or if you just want to pop in to check it out. The Library will be open through the end of 2024.
Backyard Garden
Since 2019 the Museum of Vancouver, in partnership with the University of British Columbia, have co-curated a garden exhibit on the front lawn of the Museum inspired by the multicultural backyard gardens of Vancouver. We recognize that food has been, and continues to be, a medium for civic engagement for migrant communities across the city. This experiential and inclusive garden exhibit celebrates the often untold stories of the backyard gardening community. We’re bringing the backyard to the forefront!
SAGE: Sustainable Arts & Green Ecosystems
An experienced cultural institution, the Museum of Vancouver is among museums and galleries committed to shifting to new models of sustainability and climate action, focusing on the design and building of exhibitions and other types of staged environments in the cultural sector.
Sustainable Arts and Green Ecosystems (SAGE) is a collaboration between the museum, gallery and theatre sectors, makers, used and surplus materials suppliers, students and sustainability scholars at post-secondary institutions, city planners, and waste management entrepreneurs. Together, we collaborate on initiatives and solutions to develop design and fabrication practices that emphasize material longevity, reuse and repair for the creation of theatrical, film and exhibition productions. This helps advance environmental performance, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and promote circular materials use.
