Feature Exhibitions

With your support, MOV is able to produce exciting, new feature exhibitions every year, for the public’s enjoyment. Next year, MOV is excited to present three new exhibitions:

  • Acts of Resistance will explore the role that contemporary indigenous art plays in environmental activism, by showcasing aerial blockade streamers (40ft x 10ft) created for a Green Peace protest on the Second Narrows Bridge in 2018. Your support will help MOV showcase these 6 Banners in an exciting exhibition highlighting indigenous artists, and Vancouver’s tie to environmental activism.

  • A Seat at the Table is a collaborative exhibition opening in April 2020. This exhibition will explore Chinese immigration to BC, and will highlight the significant role that Chinese-Canadians have played, and continue to play in the development of Vancouver and the province. Your support will help bring these important stories of Chinese Canadians to life!

  • That Which Sustains Us will explore the meeting of different knowledge and traditions in the Vancouver area, and people’s interactions with the natural world. The exhibition will focus on the idea that culture ultimately shapes how people interact with the natural environment. Your support will help us bring this green-themed exhibition to MOV, and explain traditional environmental stewardship teachings of the Musqueam, Skwxwú7mesh, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations.

Inspiring Children

Over 178 schools, and 18,000 school children experience Vancouver’s rich culture through experiential learning at MOV. However, classrooms across Vancouver do not have the funds to support field trips. This year, we can use your donation to help support MOV’s Enhanced Support Education Initiative (ESEI). A program to provide access to culture and learning opportunities for youth from under-resourced elementary schools (K-7). These students are often challenged by the costs associated with field trips, and as such, have limited access to these important learning opportunities. With your support, we can help provide students with an inspiring educational experience at MOV!

Community Engagement Programs

Throughout the year, MOV provides various talks, tours, panel discussions, round table debates, workshops, film screenings and presentations that provide education and entertainment to the public. This year, MOV is seeking support for our newly launched Indigenous Artisan Workshop Series. This monthly series provides opportunities for First Nations artists to share their traditional knowledge, build important dialogues, and in effect lay important groundwork for reconciliation. Coast Salish blanket weaving, block print making, and drum making are a few of the workshop offered thus far. Your support will help us continue to grow this series, and further MOV’s commitment to our partnerships with the Musqueam, Skwxwú7mesh and Tsleil-Waututh Nations.
