Growing Together: Garden Walking Tour
Join us this summer for our “Growing Together: Garden Walking Tour” Presented by Afro Van Connect and Black Space Media INC in partnership with the Museum of Vancouver and the Vancouver Maritime Museum.
On Saturday, August 23, 2025, and September 14, 2025, at 1, we will be facilitating a walking tour that amplifies the history and culture of Afro-Indigenous farmers, their land practices, and culturally relevant foods.
Attendees will be guided through the Kitsilano neighbourhood located on the Westside of Vancouver along the southern shore of English Bay starting at The Museum of Vancouver (MOV) and ending at the Maritime Museum.

Truth and Reconciliation: One in Spirit Writing Workshop
Deepen your writing. Connect with the land. Engage with Truth and Reconciliation.
Are you a writer wanting to connect your work to the history of this land? Or an educator looking for guidance on how to approach Truth and Reconciliation? This workshop is designed to support you.
Join Elder Randy Fred of the Tseshaht First Nation for a creative writing workshop and spirit walk in Vanier Park (sen̓áḵw/sən̓aʔqʷ). This is more than just writing. It is a chance to reflect, listen, and share stories that help with healing and understanding.
The day includes guided writing exercises to explore your connection to the land and its history. After that, we will take a spirit walk through the park to quietly connect with the land and its stories. The workshop ends with a shared meal and time to share and listen to personal stories.
The workshop is open to everyone, including writers, educators, and anyone interested in Truth and Reconciliation. Whether you are new to writing or have experience, this workshop will help you explore these important themes.

Film Screening: The Great Salish Heist
The Museum of Vancouver and the H.R. McMillian Space Center present a special screening of The Great Salish Heist in the auditorium.
A feature-length Indigenous-led comedy-thriller that combines humor and suspense to explore themes of cultural reclamation and resistance against colonial oppression and institutions.
To join the film screening it is a free RSVP and entry to the Museum of Vancouver galleries is by donation, with all proceeds benefiting the Indian Residential School Survivors Society (IRSSS).

Long Live Kings: Drag King Histories
Ever wondered what Vancouver’s Drag King scene looked like? Did you know there is a long history of drag kings before you?
Long Live Kings, a web series that was created and stars some of the local artists themselves. Watch three on the big screen at the Museum of Vancouver where history becomes queer.
We will have a lively panel hosted by Romi Kim/SKIM with legendary Kings Edward Malaprop, Buster Cherry, Luke Wolf, and Theo Rhetical, sharing stories, insights, and reflections on the city’s drag scene.
The program wraps up with performances by the starring kings themselves Theo Rhetical, Jeff Garbage, Percy Pegg, and Velvet Ryder.
Presented in partnership with Long Live Kings, with special thanks to the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre.
