(Not-so) Distant Decades
Vancouver in the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s
Join us for another installment of the monthly virtual tour series at MOV. This next event will give you the opportunity to tour Vancouver’s not so distant past, starting in the 1950’s and ending in the 1970’s. Led by the MOV Education team, Bérangère Descamps and Charlotte Chang, the tour will give an overview of the galleries and follow with a brief Q&A period.
In the 50’s Gallery experience the modest, hopeful dreams of post-war Vancouver and see neons light up downtown when folks go to nightclubs and movies. Learn about street photographer Foncie Pulice as he snaps portraits of the sidewalk parade and vote to play your favourite tune on the jukebox
In You Say You Want a Revolution learn how young people searching for an alternative way of life made the City of Vancouver the hippie capital of Canada. The 1960s and 1970s were a time of contention as the city grew into itself and now internationally known "radical" groups like Greenpeace started right here on home turf!
This virtual tour will provide guests with an overview of what daily life was like during these periods in the evolving city and give some context to the artefacts and objects currently on view.
Guests will also have the opportunity to ask questions at the end of the tour during a short Q&A Period.
The tour will be held over Zoom Webinars and pre-registration is required.
